Applications for GFRP Platforms include:

  • Access platform walkways
  • Pedestrian bridges, steps & walkways
  • Worker access to machinery
  • Manufacturing plants
  • Marine vessel applications
  • Water treatment works
  • Offshore wind & oil facilities
  • Railway trackside applications

Suitable for industrial and commercial environments, Glass Reinforced Polymer
(GRP) access platform systems are designed to comply with all relevant standards
such as BS 4592 & Eurocomp and provide a safe, maintenance free and cost
effective alternative to metal or wooden structures.

GRP is perfectly suited to interior, exterior and aggressive environments where industrial chemicals or acid/salt
air may quickly degrade other structures.  Commonly incorporated into new build & refurbishment designs alike, such
structures have shown proven in-service performance for 50+ years.

A typical composite platform construction would comprise the following:

  • Horizontal platform frame
  • Open mesh or covered GRP grating walking surface
  • Protective GRP hand rail system (including optional kicker plate)
  • Structural columns
  • Frame and column bracing

Access to the platform may be by means of:

GRP staircase with the following elements:

  • Stringers
  • Open mesh or covered stair treads with bolted fastenings
  • Handrail system (top & mid rail, kicker toe plate)
  • Wall/floor fixings/supports

- or -

GRP ladder with a combination of the following elements:

  • Straight ladder
  • Safety cage
  • Safety gate
  • Landing platform
  • Wall/floor fixings/supports

Structural components are available in steel grey or high visibility safety yellow and provide all the advantages of light
weight, high strength and durability, coupled with a corrosion resistant, non conductive, fire retardant and
maintenance free life.

Through-colour construction and an optional extra-durable polyurethane surface coating for external installations will
provide an enduring, smart appearance that is highly cost effective when compared to stainless or galvanised
steel/iron.

Platforms provide for worker safety in a wide variety of exposed locations in all types of workplace e.g.
manufacturing, power generation, water treatment works, petro-chemical facilities, marine applications, railways,
around machinery etc.

The relative light weight of the product makes transport, handling & installation far easier than metallic products.
Structures may be partially assembled prior to delivery for immediate installation, or fabricated in-situ using tungsten
carbide tipped tooling and resealed using an approved resin top coat.

Resin Types:

Type I

Resin Base:

Isophthalic Polyester

Characteristics:

Std: steel grey or safety yellow colour. Industrial grade corrosion resistance. Resin type offers fire retardant to ASTM
E84 Class 1 and flame spread index 15 or less. Operating temperature range -50oC to105oC.

Applications:

Suitable for all general industrial environments. Mid concentrations of inorganic acids & alkalis.

Constituent profiles are manufactured/tested in accordance with:

ISO9001:2008 | EN13706 | EN 13501-1:2007

Can be fixed to:

GRP grating platforms, concrete, metal or wooden substrates

Construction methods:

Platforms are assembled by either plain or colour matched rivets or stainless bolt systems and specialist industrial
adhesives.  Custom made reinforcement/joining brackets & plates are also deployed.Typical fixtures to concrete
substrates are achieved using expansion anchors (stainless/galvanised or zinc plated) or chemical anchors along
with further plates & brackets.
